The stratosphere´s bottom is approximately 10 km (6 miles) or 33,000 feet above the ground at mid-latitudes. At 50 km (31 mi) the top of stratosphere is found. The stratosphere´s bottom height varies according to latitude and the season. The stratosphere´s lower boundary can reach as high as 20km (12 miles or 65,000 ft) close to the equator, and as low at 7 km (4 mi or 23,000 ft) at the poles during winter. The tropopause is the lower boundary of stratosphere; the stratopause is the upper boundary.
