HDFC- Smart Shoppers is a reported attack site

Was feeling like buying an Olympus Digital SLR cam today. The HDFC guys sent me a flyer with the specification and I was pretty happy with it. So I call up the phone-banking service to order the cam. They tell me you need to order it on HDFC site. Fine, so I am on the HDFC shopping site and look what I get …

Bl0ody hell ! this is what our top urban bank has to offer us? See what the firefox report has to say about this.
This page tries to install programs that steal private information and use your computer to attack others or damage you computer.
This site is probably not a direct HDFC property. They are kind of affiliates through which they help sell consumer goods through easy installment system on their credit cards
Anyway I tried to open the same site in Opera Browser and it did not have a problem opening the site. But I could not find the product they had sent the flyers about. So I felt like contacting them online. I click the contact us link and this is what I get..

And everyone wonders why is Online Shopping not so popular in India? HDFC is the most Tech Savy bank in India in my opinion. Now this is what they offer. One sentence saying enter your contact information here. What next…? Design error? Cross browser compatibility failure? Whatever it is, it only pisses of a user.
I will of course be directing the attention of HDFC people about this and at the same time would like you to share it with your friends so that they are aware of the Crap they are being supplied with in the name of online technology.

Fraud Alert : Get Fake Experience Certificate : placemententerprise.com

A mail lands in my mailbox claiming “Get Fake Experience Certificate from Genuene Company”. Do mark the “Genuene”. So if you plan to sue them they can say safely that we did not say genuine we said “Genuene”.
The mail had a link and just two lines. I decided to dig a bit and see what is the scam about. Once you arrive on the page the first half page is packed with Google ads. How interesting!
What they are selling?
Fake Experience Certificate, Fake Offer Letters, Appointment Letter, Salary Slips, Corporate Email Id, Experience Letter, Relieving Letter, Letter of Recommendation, Corporate ID / Access Card, Bank Statement, Increment Letter
My first reaction was – “bloody hell”. How can a company sell this openly? They have packages ranging from INR 10,000 to INR 30,000 for a combination or all of the above fraud documents. This company also claims to be registered and having a successful track record of 8-10 years. ( they are not sure, then how can you be ). You can also use these fraud papers to blackmail your current employer to claim higher salaries, so the company claims.
I received the mail form raj@placemententerprise.com and this is their website that the sick company imagines to be “excellent’. The website seems to be covering a whole range of crapy services. They need to design their own website first before claiming to design ours. They have posted their descriptive ads on various forums like NaukriSalah
I feel sad that in our country such businesses and people can thrive. Not just thrive but offer services openly. Of course this has to be reported. Instead of displaying their creativity in something constructive and entrepreneurial young people prefer to take the short cut to financial gains. I wonder if they ever realize it is a criminal action to forge documents even for job applications or claiming pay hikes. Not just that they are incriminating innocent job seekers they are exploiting their limitations.
If you can see a little ahead of your present, then do understand that even though you might be able to land a job or etch out a salary hike based on these false achievements you are putting your future at stake. You will remain in constant fear all throughout your career. Imagine four years from now and you are in a respectable position when your fraud is discovered. You will loose more than your job. You loose your self respect and reputation in industry. I don’t know how you will take it then, if it was me then……

here is the mail

Shortcut to instant fame and free promotion – get tata in your domain name
I know you have read around and seen a dozen movies that say there is no shortcut to success. But I reckon you will
Key to instant success ; source : dreamstime.com
agree with me that there is a shortcut to fame. If fame can bring you promotion then you can find out a way of making gold out of it. Let’s not get into my intricate philosophical ramblings and hit the topic head on.
Here is your shortcut to instant fame.
Buy a domain name or register a company with the word TATA in it.
I mostly deal with online ventures so we will stick to the domains funda. Now you may wonder what good it does. To that, here is the secret. Check out this case of oktatabyebye.com being taken over by TATA sons. You would have a fair idea what I am talking about now. It is a simple three step process to instant fame.
- Buy a domain with TATA word in it.
- Tatas will claim their rights to your domain.
- You will be all over the media.
Sounds good, eh? Go for it. I would also suggest some domains that are available and very lucrative.
dontsaytata.com ( social networking site)
kabhitatamatkehna.co.in (for an Indian site)
oktatababe.com (in case you want a porno site)
ta-ta-phis.in (read tain-tain-phis recommended for social book marking)
Tata sons should also sue these sites. (@tata Please consider giving me a commission for giving you this brilliant idea)
batatavada.com (its a parked domain right now but you may buy it over for snacks bar portal)
Got some other suggestions for Tata people like this? Please share in the comments.

Will Google Chrome OS kill Windows in India

I was just checking out a news piece on the level of software piracy in India. But I was not surprised to know that software piracy in India is as high as 73% when compared to 23% in US. You would not be surprised either. [Source: Hindu Business line] The Indian subcontinent is the new piracy hub in Internet world. We read at colleges and technical institutes that run on pirated software. Even though a single user copy is bought it is used in over 50 PCs.
The most used piece of software in India is probably the windows. (all versions included) But only those people who get branded PCs or laptops have a genuine windows copy. Other who assemble their systems are on pirated ones mostly. Hardware dealers and computer sales people install windows on assembled PCs for 250 rs. Some of the 10 standard kids in the alley will call me crazy for quoting 250 INR, they would do it for 100. Or coax your techie friend and get it free with technical support from the ‘techie’ group.
With this situation in mind I was thinking if Google new chrome operating system came free with added speed, more Internet applications and less system crashes then will it kill Microsoft Windows in India? It is a tough thing to answer at this point of time.

Chrome Vs Windows
Here are some points to Chrome’s favor.
OS Cost : I have a feeling that software cost being the first priority in India rather than security, this could be a winner for Chrome.
Legal Pressure : Now Indian authorities are pressing it hard with NASCOM against software piracy. So if they are left with a choice of choosing between Microsoft of 1500 Rs and Google for free I guess many wood go for Google.
Brand Power : Google is a hugely popular brand in India as well so if brand loyalty is considered then they are almost even.
Performance : Now if we weigh performance then those who have used Google and its products have got hardly any thing to complain. On the other hand you will get more complaints than compliments for Windows and other MS products.
Points in Favor of Windows
User Friendliness : Windows has one big advantage in shape of User Friendliness. Not many people would prefer to learn a new OS. The same thing that happened to Linux. Operating system is more or less synonymous to Windows in India. It would take a while to wrench this reputation out of MS grasp.
Supporting Software: We have grown up on MS Office, Media Player etc. Will Chrome provide support for this or will it be the rise of Internet office applications?
Hardware and Driver Support : Manufacturers of hardware are today MS centric. Will this hamper Google’s Chances?
There are more questions. So it remains to be seen. Will Google Chrome Kill Microsoft Windows in India?

Recession Hits me – how about you?
I have been working for a year and half with a travel chain based in Canada. I am positioned at New Delhi office where I lead the IT team. Recession began around the same time I joined here. We did not see much of an impact though it has hit travel very hard. The latest news is PIA (Pakistan International Air) has gone bankrupt. In India we saw tough times as well and currently the government is planning a bailout package for low cost carriers. But they had not affected me directly, unless you consider the fact that I have not seen a raise in salary for the last twelve months.
But recently it got me hard. I am consultant to a Recruitment agency in India that operates form New Delhi too. Now these people are totally dependent on international and domestic job openings for making a living as they supply manpower internationally. I have been helping them in Internet promotions. But as the jobs dried up in Americas, Europe and Arab things have got tough for manpower suppliers. Competition is fierce. The big players are leaving no stone unturned to find the worm. Everyone gets up early so no worms for the early bird either. The SERPS are burning so recruiters are fighting it on search engines too to get more deals and sustain themselves.
To top it with more worries, unemployment caused due to recession is driving more Internet frauds. Every other week you see issues cropping up with fraudulent companies asking for payment in lieu of contracts. Promotions and spam are filling up the mail boxes like the 90’s boom. It is now a challenge for me to keep these people in competition and only time will tell if I can pass it’s test.
