Himalayan salt is a halite mineral that is often used in food as a replacement for common salt. Besides being used in cooking, Himalayan salt is also used for food presentation, decorative lamps, and spa treatment. 

According to local legends, Himalayan salt was discovered by the army of Alexander The Great. Nevertheless, the first record of mining dates back to the 1200s, where the Janjua people extracted this mineral. Noticeably, due to marketing cost, Himalayan salt is about twenty times more expensive than table salt or sea salt. Although it is claimed to be a healthier option as opposed to table salt, there is no scientific evidence behind this claim.
