I spend a way too much time on facebook. Its virtually open all the time on a dedicated chrome / firefox tab. Lolz.

Here is the snapshot of an update from a friend that was duplicated. Posts like this take a lot of visible space on the feed space. While the more important ones get pushed down.

Duplicate Feed items resulting from LIKING and SHARING the same item.

If that is happening all the time I must say it would annoy a lot of people. It is very probable that someone sharing a feed item will like it too. In that case pushing both the action to our news feeds is not a smart thing to do.

I will be reporting this to Facebook – with a hope they fix it ASAP.

I was tagged on a note / link shared by a friend. The content was in Spanish language and I am dead sure this particular friend has no Spanish girlfriend for whom he would learn Spanish overnight. The thumbnail accompanying the link was showed some semi nude women.

That was enough to trigger a spam alert in my already spam suspicious brain. (sorry can’t help). As I have always pointed out, being spam conscious is the best defense against getting hacked and then spamming your friends.

• DO NOT click the link.
• Untag yourself from the post (see the red box above – I did it) It will stop the post from appearing on your timeline.
• Alert your friend about the infection and ask them to double check every application they have allowed. Disallow all unnecessary apps.
• Run a through system scan if things do not improve.
• Ask your friends to change their Facebook Password ASAP.

You need have to recruit the right hero from the Hermit House on the Resources Tab of TKO game. The heros are not available every day. If you are keep looking every day you can spot them. You will need certain “Flags” to abe able to challenge the hero. You can gain those flags from the Quests Page – Hermit’s Quests.

Choose which page you want to get a Vanity URL for.

You can see I already have my Profile URL set. If you havn’t yet you can do it here too.

You can now provide what url you want. Choose something sweet and small.

Once you have picked your desired URL check its availability. You can see some rascal already took my desired URL. So I have to improvise and yet stick to my desired url. So I picked Nth.Dimension.India

Now my facebook page has the url http://www.facebook.com/Nth.Dimension.India makes sense? Well my domain is nthdimension.in so I added India.

Rules to follow

• You can use only alpha-numeric characters and ‘.’ period.
• You cannot change your facebook page username again.
• you cannot transfer it to another facebook account.
• if you do not own the right to the user name it will be confiscated by the rightful owner.
• if you sell the page to another company and it tracked by facebook it will be reclaimed.
• only admins of the pages can create the vanity URL. It need not be the owner. A facebook page can have multiple admins.

This is a small post for those who have been banging their heads on various forums about “Google Kills PR” and “Pagerank addons not working” kind of stuff.

Notice the change in URL. “search” part now replaced with “tbr” which would ofcourse be a short form for toolbar. Their engineers have done some upgrades there. But why change the url. No Idea.

I just ruined my last weekend trying to install Redmine on my shared hosting account featuring cPanel. This one is on Hostgator. I do not want you to face the same problem while dealing with the totally fucked up installation process of Ruby on Rails Redmine Application. Use this installation guide drink lots of fluids, put on some music and you will be done in half an hours time. Good Luck.

Gathering the Resources

Lets get our software code first. I assume you have already visited Redmine and read the requirements then you can download the code here. I am using the stable release 1.2.o in this case. That’s the latest avaialable.

Now we need to activate SSH (secure shell access) on your hosting account to execute the ruby commands. Yes some command like tasks are involved here and we don’t have another option. Some Cpanel  dashboards have an Icon where we can activate SSH but Hostgator for some mysterious reason does not want us to use that. So you can raise the issue through a chat support request or ticket.
Get winscp or putty to connect to your SSH.  I used WinScp which acts as a kool FTP client as well.

So now lets connect to SSH. Note the Ip address from your hosting account (left column) and use your hosting account credentials to login to SSH. Almost the same way use do it with FTP clients. See the screenshot below to launch the SSL.

Now go to your control panel and trace this Ruby Icon. See the pic below for reference.

Next we have to create a place for our ruby application in the Rail_apps area. Remember this is not a public_html thing so it goes in a different place. I am saying that because you will have to do some file level  modification on this latter. So you know exactly where you ruby files are.

Finally you can buy some seeds if you dont have spare time to kill doing all those activities I mentioned before.

You can replicate the same success with your twitter account and YouTube videos. But again remember my advice from previous post. (link provided at the beginning of this post). These are not the right kind of fans that will give you any long term benefit.
