The words of a Techie who loved Nature.

One of my friends today asked on his facebook profile…

is Arundhati Roy Anti-national? This is what Roy has to say about … Take some time to watch the video, its good.

Its not just Ms Roy; Mr Ram Jethmalini of BJP and Mr Geelani from the Huriyat have been branded anti nationals or Anti Party for voicing support for the separatist movement that has gripped Kashmir. No, not Kashmir rather the Indian nation as a whole. This post is my personal thought about the Separatist forces in India.

Mr Geelani today leads the Huriyat Conference that is demanding a separate state. Its not a secret that these people who lead this violent organization are pets of Pakistani military agencies who operate to spread mayhem in India. I wont say Pakistani government because that exists only in papers. They claim to find a peaceful solution to the Kashmir Problem by initiating dialogues with the separatist forces.

I ask you.. was there peace post the division after independence.
Will the people of Kashmir, if they choose to go independent, be able to defend themselves. The example of Swat should be an eye opener. Swat was Pakistani equivalent of Kashmir valley in terms of beauty and tourism. Where does it stand now? Do we want to see the same fate of Kashmir?

If we allow the separation of kashmir cuz it was annexed to India because of a Signature from the then Ruler Raja Hari Singh what about the states of  Andhra, Karnataka, Awadh and the near thousand princely states. Should we let them take an independent path? Is that what you call a lasting and peaceful solution? Shall we let the Naxals form governments or rather make separate states? Naxals are probably way smarter than the Huriyat. They know the power of a nation and hence they just want the power.

Learn from the history. Was pre- British India peaceful? Will the division into smaller states make happy citizens and bring better administration? We have been united in diversity. That is the force that binds a billion individuals, 500 dialects, 28 states. I would say BJP is right to stand against those who suggest separation as an answer to lasting violence.

We should see that these separatists are nothing more than Opportunist scumbags. The best part will be to neglect them all together. We have to make sacrifices for the greater good. I suppose the sacrifices should start with the separatists.

Casinos in India | Are they legal

Posted by rooturaj On October - 15 - 2010

I have been working in a travel company for three years now as the head of IT department. I do get involved with sales and marketing of Travel products every now and then. It may sound weird to you but until recently I never knew Casinos were legally permitted in India.

I mean I knew popular destinations and big hotels had some form of Casino in house but open gambling being banned casinos should be in the same league. But they do exist and enjoy a restricted permission to operate. If the property is not based on Indian mainland then you have the freedom to operate. Like Cruises for example. Further the casino license are only allowed in the state of Goa

I was looking for a list of casinos and found them only in Goa.
Chances Casino and Club – Vainguinim Beach
Las Vegas – The Gaming Club – Mobor
Ramada Caravela Beach Resort Goa – Salcette
Treasures Casino - Salcette
Winners Casino and Hacienda de ora – Altomonte Margao

Many times we get queries from western clients looking for Hotels and packages with casinos. So for any other places apart form Goa it becomes a tough call. I have a feeling that we can invest into a entertainment destination like Genting in Malaysia or Las Vegas in US or Kathmandu in Nepal we can attract an elite class of travelers. Even Online Casino Games are in popular demand in India. People go to online portals because they don’t have and option in real world. These websites provide best casino bonuses which looks like a plus over the expenses.

Probably you would disagree with me for suggesting a proliferation of gambling activities. Ethically speaking it may not be good for a society. But you cannot weed it out. It thrives in our alleys, in our sports and even in our religious affairs. If we can legalize the trade and track it lawfully that would be way better.

Messenger Links | Yahoo Skype Gtalk Chat and Call links on website

Posted by rooturaj On October - 13 - 2010

Have you ever wondered about those special links that let you activate your Instant Messenger when you click a link on some website and let you talk to their customer support or Sales guy? Ever wanted to include the same on your own blog or website? Here is my one stop guide to all special messenger links.

Popular Messengers - Using them on your Website.

Popular Messengers - Using them on your Website.

You don’t always need to use those free chat integrations on your website that eat up your bandwidth and are not much user friendly as well. Moreover they bug your visitors with adds if you are using free versions. Almost everyone will has and knows how to use a messenger software so it could be a bit more comfortable for the users.

I am adding code snippets for the three most popular messengers on the planet – Yahoo, Gtalk, Skype
Remember these links only work if you have the respective messenger installed on your system.

Yahoo Messenger Links for your Website

<a href="ymsgr:sendIM?userid">Open an Instant Message Window</a>
<a href="ymsgr:sendIM?userid&m=add your message here">Opens yahoo IM window with a default message</a>
<a href="ymsgr:addfriend?userid">Adds the user to your buddy list</a>
<a href="ymsgr:chat?CHATROOMNAME">Starts a chat room.</a>

Gtalk Messenger (Chat and Call Links for your website / Blog)

gtalk:ACTION?jid=to-email-id&from_jid=from-email-id

Now Google Talk has one simplified global version. You can use ‘chat’ or ‘call’ (without the quotes) in place of action start a chat window or make a voice call which ever you like. The to-email-id field will carry the emailid of  the user who receives the chat or call and the from-email-id is for the sender. The latter is an optional field. You need that in case you have multiple google account to choose form.

Skype Messenger Chat and Call links

skype:USERNAME?ACTION

The Action parameter could be either ‘chat’ or ‘call’ as per your requirement. You could configure it smartly on your websites with a little bit of programming. There should be an admin page where the support guy or you can control your status and depending on the inputs the chat and call links will change sitewide.

What do you make out of such status updates by women on facebook these days?

  • On My Bed – Soft and Familiar
  • On the Big Table
  • i like it in da closet….:)
  • dining table with candles lit.

I know what you are thinking. But thats not it. There is nothing related to sex here.  Read On.

Man you put a mystery in front of me and …poof I loose my sleep. The mystery is – whats going on????. Looks like every one else knows except me. People are liking and commenting on the statuses while we dont have a clue whats going on.

So I google the damn thing and crack the code.

This is all about the World Breast Cancer month – Oct. This is to create an awareness among women. Facebookers find an innovative way of spreading this awareness – by curiosity. You get mystified you search and you find the answer.  So you do not forget. Hmnn I like that.

Last year it was even more wicked. They talked about what color bra they are wearing. I had no idea whats going on. One of my friends (girl) posted “White and Lacey” one of my male friends commented “Blue Black Pin Strip” and I said “denim with copper”. And you should have seen the reaction from other female friends. They were laughing their heads off. We two poor souls had to delete our comments and stayed away from facebook for two days.

I am posting this so that you dont make and ass of yourself while dealing with your female friends on facebook.

Now this is some thing unique I discovered today.

I have a squidoo lens 10 KILLER ways to promote your Squidoo lens which was not being indexed. So I was doing a search for its title and I came across the following results. Now there was some thing which came as a surprise.  Look at the snapshot below.

Links in google site Description ?? Hows that possible?

Links in google site Description ?? Hows that possible?

Notice the third result and its description. There is a link within the description that has been picked from the sites navigation content. Squidoo has an auto generated Navigation feature that links to different sections of your lens. Now this seems to be a bug at Google’s end. Unless they have decided to add this new feature to the description content. But if the latter be true they are not linking to proper places on the page in question.

I will definitely be raising this issue with Google but I thought I would share this with my fellow Programmer, Bloggers and SEOs to find out some more about this. Have you ever come across something like this before?

Update : Looks like a bug. Isha, SEO form Mumbai did some further digging and reports it to be a Firefox error. I did some cross checking but found the error IE6 too. So I am almost convinced its a google problem.

FAO lists J&K, Arunachal as independent Countries | Saves Face

Posted by rooturaj On October - 9 - 2010

Indians around the Globe were enraged when FAO listed Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh as Independent States in its latest report on greenhouse gas emissions from the dairy sector (2010) .

This blunder was first brought to public by Times Of India [ref].

On further digging I managed to reach the original document [ref] ( I hope this is the one). But I do not see any thing about Jammu Kashmir or Arunachal there. Rather there is an addition India/China which probably stands for those areas that FAO hallucinates to be disputed. Refer to Annex 5 at the end of the document.

Gavin Wall, FAO head in India,  said the country grouping is based on FAO’s Global Administrative Unit Layers (GAUL), which aims at compiling and disseminating information on administrative units for all countries in the world and it complies with the UNCS international boundaries map.

So Mr Wall went wrong with your Global Administrative Unit Layers shit now? Bloody chicken hearts. This is a international pot to disintegrate India.  I call upon all Indian brothers to react strongly to such situation. Its better they fixed the mistake.  Else I would have made sure Mr Wall had a Merry Time in New Delhi.
